Michael Phillips, one of Econoler’s senior EE specialists, is working with Deloitte Consulting on implementing the USAID-funded Catalyzing Clean Energy in Bangladesh (CCEB) project. The assignment involves evaluating demand-side management (DSM) measures and identifying improvements, including interruptible contracts, more robust time-of-use tariffs, and the use of load control switches. The project also involves building capacity of the newly-formed DSM unit at Dhaka Electric Supply Company Limited (DESCO) and Dhaka Power Distribution Company Limited (DPDC), the two main electric distribution companies serving Dhaka. Michael is currently working with the two utilities and the regulator on the development of pilot projects to demonstrate DSM as a way to reduce peak loads.
