Econoler supported the World Bank in a market evaluation that included 300 household surveys in the field to help the Government of Panama develop and implement a strategy to achieve universal access to clean cooking technologies in the country, which was focused on the residential sector. The project served to identify the steps and mechanisms needed to generate market demand, establish a supply chain, remove market barriers, improve stove efficiency, and implement strategies for replacing fuels with cleaner alternatives, all based on the socioeconomic and gender conditions in Panama.
Under the mandate, Econoler carried out the following tasks:
-
Conducted a demand-side and supply-side analysis of the clean cooking market in Panama, including 300 household surveys in the field to gather data on cooking habits and technology preferences;
-
Prepared an inventory of existing clean and efficient cooking technologies and assessed their potential for use in Panama;
-
Analyzed the policy and regulatory environment related to clean cooking in Panama;
-
Assessed market barriers and identified opportunities for a potential cooking stove replacement program;
-
Evaluated scenarios for assessing the impact of a potential stove replacement program, including financial, energy, emission, and gender impacts.
Upon project completion, the Government of Panama gained a comprehensive understanding of the clean cooking market, including demand, supply, policy challenges, and support needs for scaling clean cooking solutions in the country.
