GIZ-Algeria is supporting the International Relations Ministry and the Environment and Renewable Energy Ministry in establishing sustainable climate governance to facilitate the implementation of the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), compliance with the provisions of the Paris Agreement, and defence of the interests of the country during international negotiations under the auspices of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Thus, the mandate focused on reinforcing the governance structure, institutions, and mechanisms necessary at the national level to allow Algeria to comply with Paris Agreement provisions.
Econoler has been mandated to carry out the following tasks:
- Analyse the institutional climate governance, legal, and regulatory frameworks of Algeria based on strengths and weaknesses;
- Assist the government in reinforcing the climate governance mechanism for implementing the NDC and meeting Paris Agreement requirements;
- Assist and support the government in preparing legal and regulatory texts;
- Reinforce the capacity of sectoral representatives and members of the delegation in charge of international climate change negotiations for Algeria.
At the end of this mandate, the Government of Algeria has a proposed governance structure that complies with the Paris Agreement, but also drafts of legal texts that will serve to strengthen climate governance in Algeria.
