EE Training for Banks – Industrial EE Program of UNIDO

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) created the technical assistance Industrial Energy Efficiency (IEE) program in order to develop the Ecuadorean national capacities for the adoption of energy efficiency (EE) measures. The specific goals of the program are as follows: i) to strengthen the management of the institutional and financial capacity; ii) to extend the technical knowledge in EE and spread it; iii) to tend to the development of a corporate culture in management of energy and EE; iv) to implement demonstrative projects and spread them.

Econoler was commissioned to train credit managers and analysts in the financing of energy efficiency. The goal of the training was to make employees of financial institutions familiar with the general concepts of financing of energy efficiency with a focus on project assessment. Participants provided from private and public financial institutions.   The program consisted in:

  • An awareness seminar for credit managers, with the aim promoting the knowledge both of energy efficiency projects and financing of the same and of the development of dedicated credit lines
  • Training for credit officers with the aim of providing knowledge and tools for the detailed analysis of industrial energy efficiency projects.

  Besides, as part of the assignment, training materials were prepared.   The following documents were delivered to participants:

The awareness/training seminar and workshop were held in Quito on May 12 and 13, 2015 and in Guayaquil on May 14 and 15, 2015, in cooperation with José Peña Jaramillo, National Coordinator of the Project for the UNIDO, Maria Fernanda Valencia from the MEER and Nelson Cerda, national financial expert.   A final report was prepared, with a detailed assessment of the different seminars and workshops. Some recommendations for future seminars and workshops were also included.
