Project Performance Measurement and Verification (M&V)

Guaranteeing the Real Performance of Your Energy Efficiency Projects

Energy efficiency projects are always worth implementing; they are innovative and stimulating, and they create value. However, a key factor is their real impacts and the ability to clearly demonstrate the results achieved. This is where Econoler’s measurement and verification (M&V) services come in, providing rigour, transparency, and consistency.

Our services enable:

  • The elimination of barriers associated with energy efficiency projects through a structured approach
  • A consistent and standardized approach to measuring and verifying energy consumption and carbon emission reductions across a wide range of sectors
  • The performance evaluation and improvement of all types of facilities, whether industrial, institutional, or commercial
  • Reduced risks for financial institutions that see M&V as a reliable framework for securing their investments

Public utilities and government agencies widely use our M&V services in their demand management incentive programs.

Econoler

An Established Process Adapted to All Sectors

Our M&V services can be adapted to any sector and project size, whether for private enterprises or the industrial, institutional, or commercial sectors. We support you throughout the entire process, from data collection to documentation of results as well as during the implementation of the M&V solution.

We tailor our approach to your situation: data availability, performance monitoring objectives, and regulatory requirements (financial aid, internal or external standards, the Quebec Cap-and-Trade System [CATS], etc.). Thanks to our expertise, you achieve reliable and transparent results to support your decisions.

M&V plans define how energy performance is measured, analyzed, and verified, specifying the method, baseline, measurement limits, and necessary adjustments used while providing a framework for practical and operational aspects. These plans make it possible to anticipate energy savings by following a credible and rigorous methodology. Based on the globally recognized IPMVP, they enable energy savings to be anticipated and increase stakeholder confidence in the accuracy of actual project gains.

Energy monitoring is based primarily on reliable reference data. Whether it involves accurate measurements taken on key equipment or analysis of energy bills, this information forms the basis for optimal M&V.

After implementing efficiency measures, energy performance can be evaluated even more accurately using either mathematical regressions based on energy data or advanced tools such as RETScreen and ENERGY STAR® Portfolio Manager, which serve to monitor equipment consumption and identify deviations from expected performance. This provides energy managers with an accurate and instantaneous view of energy savings and the ability to intervene rapidly in the event of deviation to maximize returns on investment and sustainably support performance objectives.

Econoler also offers independent verification services to confirm the energy performance reported by energy service companies (ESCOs) or other such organizations. We analyze and validate assumptions, energy data, the methodology applied, and the accuracy of calculations. We then provide a detailed report to ensure complete transparency on measured performance.
