Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC)

Supporting the Latin America and Caribbean Region in its Energy Transition

Helping Countries Overcome Challenges Through Adapted Solutions

Econoler has been active in nearly every country across the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) region, from major economies such as Brazil and Mexico recognized for their leadership in clean energy and energy efficiency policies to the smallest Caribbean islands like Montserrat and Saba whose economies depend heavily on imported fuels.

Through a wide range of projects, Econoler has demonstrated its ability to deliver tailored solutions that meet the unique needs of each country’s specific context regardless of geography, language, energy framework, or challenge.

At COP28 (2023), all 198 parties agreed to triple renewable energy capacity and double energy efficiency by 2030. While the LAC region has made significant progress in renewable energy, challenges remain in meeting established energy efficiency targets. Improving energy efficiency across sectors is essential to reduce energy intensity, optimize resource use, and support sustainable growth. Econoler supports governments and organizations in meeting their energy efficiency commitments through adapted policies, programs, and financing designed for regional and national realities..

Econoler

Supporting All Stakeholders in Achieving Energy Efficiency Objectives

In the LAC region, we partner with local governments, public institutions, development organizations, and financial stakeholders to accelerate the transition toward clean energy economies through the promotion of energy efficiency and distributed renewable energy solutions. Our expertise spans tailored program and policy design, innovative financing solution and market transformation strategy development, as well as institution strengthening.

Econoler has developed specialized expertise in assisting Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and Overseas Countries and Territories (OCTs), which represent most of the Caribbean region. These countries and territories are highly vulnerable to climate change impacts, yet they face significant challenges due to their small populations, limited energy resources, difficult access to efficient technologies, and scarcity of attractive financing options. Our work is focused on helping these nations overcome these barriers by promoting energy efficiency and developing tailored solutions.

Our approach combines tailored program and policy design adapted to national and local priorities, the development of innovative business and financing models that accelerate implementation, and dedicated support for climate finance initiatives to mobilize investments where they are most needed. Through these efforts, we help build resilient, sustainable energy markets that reflect regional and national realities, thereby promoting energy efficiency and distributed renewable energy solutions across the region.

Our Key Areas of Expertise:

  • Policies, Institutional Frameworks, Laws, Regulatory Mechanisms: Conduct gap analyses of existing regulations to identify barriers and propose policy and regulatory reforms that foster sustainable sector growth
  • Market Studies and Program Design: Identify energy saving opportunities across various market segments to inform the design of energy efficiency and distributed renewable energy programs tailored to local needs and market conditions and sustainable
  • Innovative Business Models and Financing Mechanisms: Support program implementers and financial institutions in designing targeted lending products and innovative financing mechanisms for residential, commercial, and industrial energy programs
  • Energy Performance: Support the establishment of energy service companies (ESCOs) and Super ESCOs while facilitating the implementation of energy performance contracts
  • Capacity Building: Empower institutions and organizations in facing energy challenges and making the right decisions to ensure resilient and sustainable energy market development
