Our Story
Pioneering Energy Efficiency Since 1981
Econoler was founded on the belief that energy efficiency is one of the most powerful and cost-effective levers to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while supporting economic development.
Econoler is founded in Québec, Canada, by Hydro-Québec and a leading Canadian engineering firm. One of the world’s first Energy Service Companies (ESCOs), Econoler invested over CAD 125 million in more than 650 projects across commercial, industrial, and institutional sectors, pioneering a shared-savings approach to energy performance contracting.
We began exporting and licensing our ESCO expertise, initially to Western Europe and later to Asia and North Africa. Successful implementation in over 20 countries established Econoler as a recognized global leader in energy service projects.
As markets evolved, Econoler transitioned from ESCO operations to consulting services. We focused on promoting energy efficiency through program design, policy support, demand-side management initiatives, and the development of energy codes and equipment standards.
Pierre Langlois became president in 1996, marking a new era of growth and international expansion. Following a management buy-back of the firm in 1998, Econoler became a fully independent consulting firm, expanding its mission to provide technical assistance worldwide.
Econoler expanded its services to include decarbonization strategies, grid flexibility, and advanced energy data analytics. Today, we are a trusted global firm, delivering impactful energy efficiency and decarbonization solutions worldwide.
