Revolutionizing Building Renovations: Econoler SA Joins the BARRIO Life Project

We are embarking on a remarkable journey as part of the new BARRIO Life Project, a groundbreaking initiative set to revolutionize building renovations by tackling the fragmentation of demand and supply, and introducing innovative industrial solutions for neighborhood-wide interventions.

Kicking Off in October 2024

Starting in October 2024, the BARRIO Life Project will dive into three ambitious objectives:
  1. Uniting Neighborhoods for Renovation
Imagine a tool that brings together the renovation needs of entire neighborhoods, aggregating demands using a multidisciplinary approach that ensures everyone’s needs are heard and met.
  2. Crafting New Business Models
Think about flexible, cutting-edge business models tailored to support large-scale renovations. These models will make it easier and more profitable for both the demand and supply sides to engage in building improvements.
  3. Accelerating Renovation with Prefabrication
Envision prefabricated solutions that make renovation faster and more efficient. By leveraging economies of scale, we can drastically reduce costs and streamline the renovation process.

A Collaborative Effort

We are honored to join forces with an incredible consortium, led by Certimac | Matériaux. Énergie. Innovation., and featuring esteemed partners like Instituto Valenciano de la Edificación (IVE), IRI UL – Institute for Innovation and Development of University of Ljubljana, Center for Energy Efficiency EnEffect, B. Link, UBIK, and Housing Europe.

Our Role in the BARRIO Life Project

At Econoler, we’re taking on two pivotal tasks in this project:

1. Pioneering New Business Models
Our mission is to create the BARRIO risk-sharing framework, which will make these large-scale interventions profitable and appealing for everyone involved. We’re focusing on:

• Encouraging the aggregation of interventions with targeted risk allocation and better financing access.
• Promoting the use of prefabricated solutions within aggregated renovation offers.
• Mitigating investment risks at the neighborhood level.
• Showcasing the benefits of aggregated renovations to local stakeholders.

To achieve this, we’ll integrate local value chains, emphasizing social and environmental benefits. We’ll collaborate closely with stakeholders and build on outcomes from previous EU projects, designing new business models with innovative financing schemes tailored to the unique needs of different regions.

2. Validating and Extending Our Models
Ensuring the success and sustainability of our business models and solutions is crucial. We’ll:

• Reduce risks and uncertainties by refining our approaches based on stakeholder feedback and market research.
• Develop a comprehensive Guidelines document to extend the BARRIO approach to new areas. This document will cover everything from financial tools to stakeholder engagement strategies and risk mitigation plans.
• We’ll also explore various ways to exploit the results and lessons learned, integrating our approaches into our activities as fund managers for several EE and Super ESCO funds in Europe and North America. By doing so, we aim to optimize transaction costs and achieve economies of scale for building renovations.

Looking Ahead

The innovative business models and financial instruments developed through the BARRIO Life Project hold great potential for replication in other regions where Econoler operates. With our extensive expertise, we’re poised to analyze and enhance solutions, assess renovation methods, engage local stakeholders, and establish new business models that integrate these solutions.

We are dedicated to making a significant impact through the BARRIO Life Project, driving the future of building renovations and energy efficiency. Together with our partners and stakeholders, we’re paving the way for sustainable and innovative solutions in the building renovation sector.

Stay tuned for more updates on our journey with the BARRIO Life Project!
